Vlogging Gear To Get Started On Twitch • YouTube • Mixer Live #Streaming

Are you ready to upgrade from the webcam? Or maybe you're just getting into video production or live streaming/vlogging? Recently we looked into the technical side of  how to livestream, which is free with the right tools, and fairly easy to get started. Buying a vlogging kit doesn't have to break the bank either. Let's take a look at some video production gear for vloggers.

A Vlogging Camera for the Starter-Pro

We have a lot of good HD cameras to choose from and we have reviewed some before here on Tubeblogger. Even 4k cameras are getting quite affordable now!

1080p 60fps Camcorder with Wifi, Touchscreen, Wide Angle Lens • Price: $149 • Amazon
For the vlogger starter kit I'll recommend this affordable CofunKool camera. It's used by many vloggers and records high quality footage up to 1080p60 resolution.  Has good storage and USB options. It's compact and light, great for placing on desk or bringing outside for 'IRL' (In Real Life) vlogging. Comes with a microphone, remote, mini tripod, case, 2 batteries, charger and cables. It can charge directly via USB while recording. Also has some function for the techie (slowmo mode, night vision, configurable quality settings).

A Microphone for Noisy Apartments

Many vloggers forget about audio quality or just use their built-in microphone on laptop or their headset. Having a good condenser mic for vlogging without background fuss can make a huge difference in overall quality and viewer retention.

Blue Snowball iCE Condenser Microphone • Price: $49 • Amazon
The Blue microphones are great for vlogging and podcasting. The Snowball version records in 40-18kHz in a cardoid pickup pattern that won't pick up much sound from your room. It has excellent reviews and is used by many vloggers and podcasters, many of whose examples you can listen to on the site before making a decision.

Lighting Can Make Everything Look Better

Unfortunately the house lamps just won't do the trick if you want professional quality vlogs inside, but we can get some pretty good shots with just one light, since we don't usually need to light a big scene while vlogging.

LED Ring Light with Tripod Stand • Price: $20 • Amazon
A ring light is a useful tool for vloggers that you can place on your desk and adjust up to 11 levels of brightness for for a more clear, color balanced image, and instantly better footage.

Green Screen For Cool VFX

If you want to replace the background with image or video you will need a green or blue screen.
Not all vloggers do this. It's mostly for cool effects and would require a bit more work in post production (editing).

Editing software
Sony Vegas or Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro) are Editor's choises, but can be a bit expensive for a starting vlogger. That may be something to invest in later, but by then maybe your editor already has pro editing software.
While starting out I'd suggest checking out one of the free editing softwares available.
Lightworks is a feature packed free editing tool that has everything you need to get started, and is also upgradable.
Also learn OBS if you're doing livestreaming.

Extras:
A flexible 'gorilla grip' tripod is a useful tool for vloggers. Especially if you're doing vlogging outside. It can be used to grip-attach the camera in improvised situations, although it's not designed for moving/action footage. For that I'd suggest a GoPro and one of their action attachments.

Anything else you might need for vlogging depends on your niche and imagination, really.
IRL vloggers might need a monopod (also known as selfie stick) until you have your own camera man. And don't forget a good camera bag.

I didn't mention you will need a computer, since I assumed you already have one.
