How 'Youtube Poop Videos' Nearly Destroyed YouTube [Again]
Why was it a huge problem that one playlist reached a billion views over a few years?
The playlist "Important Videos" was the most popular playlist ever.
Maybe he's right. There are YouTubers who are taking advantage of the fact that there's a 'poop comedy' fanbase, and incorporating it into their comedy. For example the YouTuber Cyriak makes amazing, bizarre style, comedy animations (that are not crap but are loved in the poop and weirdtubes community).
There are many spinoffs of the playlist, including Important Music, Illegal Memes, and many copies of the original Important Videos playlist that will show up if you search youtube. Basically, The poop community is here to stay.

I recently noticed it was gone and I wondered where it went. According to the web archives the playlist was last functional in 2018, right before reaching 1 billion views. The owner of the playlist has now made some backups, and so have many other users.
Made by a YouTube user named eljolto, the playlist was a collection of memes and comedy skit videos, a majority of them shorter than 30 seconds. The videos all dating back from the beginning of site to more recent, modern memes - similar to our collection "The Weird Side of YouTube" (A playlist that is still alive!).
If it's not for a technical reason it disappeared, my guess is that Youtube likes to have a certain degree of control over which videos are featured on the Trending page; as well as the front page, and what is recommended for viewers.
In an extreme example, a manager of such a playlist would have as much power as anyone on youtube (if not more) in deciding which videos are trending for the day, just by switching the order in the playlist; he could put any video he wants on top to give it millions of views. And maybe even monetize this process, or make his own videos the most popular on YouTube, or a 'complete poop' video.
(I have no knowledge that eljolto did any of that, his account is still active on YouTube so I assume he is still in good standing with them).
What else would be the reason for a playlist dying at 1 billion views?
You know what the Devil's Advocate would say: 'Maybe the rest of youtube should improve their content; don't take it out on old youtube poop videos and playlists".
Maybe even Television. The comedian Eric Andre (Comedy Central Adult Swim.) said his style of comedy is "poop", in a recent interview, hmmm...
