The Curse of Reality TV: Date, Get Engaged, Marry and Divorce All in One Calendar Year!

The one name on many people’s lips these past months has been Kim Kardashian, naturally. Whether you love her, hate her or are simply confused by her, you have to admit that the girl has got speed. Within one calendar year, she has made the fastest route possible from her first date in October 2010 to the doorway of a California family law and divorce specialist in October 2011.

Arguably the most successful woman to ever make a successful career from reality television, Kim is now the standard bearer for reality TV divorce thanks to her ill-fated marriage to NBA star Kris Humphries. But she is not the only reality TV to hit bumps in the marriage road.
Several stars from reality television franchises have been married and divorced, some in record time à la Kim-K. An early example could be Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson. Teenage sweethearts and teeny-bopper phenomenons, it seemed that nothing could part these squeaky clean pop tarts. Until MTV came in! On the opposite end of the spectrum, take a look at Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Meeting on the set of MTV’s monster docu-soap The Hills, within a space of a year they had had the dream Californian white wedding and were now heading for divorce. Thankfully, they called off the divorce lawyers and now the world can rest easy.
