Movies to See for the Holidays

Holiday Movies-Which Ones Should You see?
The holidays are here, which means no school and lots of free time. With that also comes holiday movies. It's always my favorite time of the year, because some really great movies always come to theaters. It looks like there are some good ones coming to the screen this year, and I am really excited for these upcoming releases. Many of these movies have already been rated by an audience and by critics.
Muppet Christmas

The Muppets

Surprisingly, this kids movie has received some very high ratings. It has been out in theaters for a couple of weeks now and it has been well-received by its audience. On the rating website, Rotten Tomatoes, the critics gave the movie a 98% and the audience gave it a 92%. If you are in the mood for some feel-good songs and a heartfelt children's movie, this would be the one to watch. The Muppets will always have a soft spot in my heart, and so this movie will definitely be worth the time.

New Years Eve
If you saw the movie Valentine's Day, you already know what the feel of New Year's Eve is going to be. Both movies have casts with multiple A-list actors in them and multiple story lines running throughout. It comes to theaters December 9 and if it does turn out to be just like Valentine's Day, it may not be the best movie. In my opinion, movies are better with one main story line instead of seven or eight. I think New Year's Eve might be a flop.

Sherlock Holmes
I have been looking forward to this movie since the first one came out. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law make an incredible duo as Sherlock Holmes and Watson. It is directed by Guy Ritchie, who also directed snatch and RocknRolla, who can captivate an audience with a single scene. I think (and hope) that this movie is as good as I think it will be. The plot should be intriguing and Robert Downey Jr's wit will add to the fun.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Directed by David Fincher, this movie is sure to be a real attention-grabber. The movie was taken from the first of a three-part book series. The books are thrilling and keep you on edge the whole time. I imagine the movie will be the same. There are no reviews for it yet, since it comes out December 21. The movie looks like it will be very dark so it may not be the best Christmas movie to see, but it will be an exciting thriller.

We Bought a Zoo
This movie stars Matt Damon and Scarlett Johanssen and it hits theaters on December 23. Based on a true story, it tells of a single dad attempting to get a fresh start with his two children. So, they move to a zoo. The trailer looks like it is going to be a very heart-warming film, probably the perfect movie to see on Christmas. Critics have only given it a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, but 92% of the audience wants to see it. It may be more successful than the critics think.
