Which Characters From The Office Do You Work With?
The American version of The Office was first broadcast in 2005 and has gone on to become a hit with millions of viewers on both sides of the Atlantic. It’s won a host of prestigious awards in the meantime, and has made household names out of many of its stars. And anyone who has worked in a real office will recognise many of the characters in their own colleagues.
But of all the weird and wonderful people who work at Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which among them could you happily share your working week with? Some might be a pleasure to work alongside others, while others could be a nightmare.
Michael Scott (Steve Carrell)
Although Michael can be something of a pain, deep down he’s a boss with a big heart. Even though he appears completely clueless, he often gets results without necessarily knowing how. The occasional mentions of his childhood reveal him to be lonely, and desperate for friends that will remain loyal to him.
Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson)
One-time assistant to the Regional Manager, beet farmer, martial arts expert and volunteer police officer, Dwight Schrute is conniving, determined and unfailingly loyal to Michael. His affair with the judgemental Angela provided an interesting backdrop to earlier shows, but that came to an end after her cat appeared to have been deliberately euthanised by Dwight in her freezer.
Jim Halpert (John Krasinski)
Perhaps the sanest individual in the whole office, Jim has become a respected figure amongst his colleagues. His on-off relationship with Pam in the first series later resulted in a memorable wedding at Niagara. In the workplace, however, he often appears bored by the daily routine, and is always at a loss to understand Michael’s behaviour. Dwight hates him, and is often looking to humiliate him.
Stanley Hudson (Leslie David Baker)
Stanley is one of those guys who sees work as something that just gets in the way. Whatever motivation he may have had in the past is now gone, partly because of Michael’s constant attempts to involve him in some of his dafter schemes. Stanley prefers to be left alone with his crossword puzzles, until he can finally retire and tell Michael exactly what he thinks of him.
Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling)
Obsessed with the cult of celebrity, Kelly Kapoor spends most of her day wishing she was J-Lo and browsing for new outfits on the Internet. She has enjoyed a relationship with office colleague Ryan Howard as well as Darryl Philbin from the warehouse, and sees herself as the beauty queen of Dunder Mifflin.
Author Bio: David Rice is based in the United Kingdom and works in an office. He likes to think he has the poise of Jim Halpert and the work ethic of Dwight Schrute, but in reality he probably has the commitment of Stanley Hudson and the organisational skills of Michael Scott. He works for a company which finds serviced offices for London’s business community.
