Infocalypse – Are we entering an AI-Generated Dark Age?
Some people refer to this era as the "Post-Truth Era", "The Infocalypse", or the "AI-Generated Dark Age." The term Infocalypse was coined by Aviv Ovadya to describe a future where misinformation, deepfakes, and AI-generated content make it nearly impossible to distinguish truth from falsehood. Others simply call it the "Synthetic Information Crisis."
What’s Happening?
AI-Generated Misinformation – Large-scale AI models can generate fake news, realistic deepfakes, and synthetic voices, making deception effortless.
Erosion of Trust – People lose faith in institutions, journalism, and even their own eyes and ears, leading to polarization and conspiracy theories.
Information Overload & Manipulation – The sheer flood of AI-generated content buries real information in noise, allowing bad actors to control narratives.
What Can Be Done?
Critical Thinking & Media Literacy – Educating people on how to spot AI-generated content, verify sources, and think critically.
AI Detection Tools – Developing tech that can flag deepfakes and AI-generated content, though it's a cat-and-mouse game.
Decentralized Trust Systems – Using blockchain, cryptographic verification, and decentralized networks to prove authenticity.
We’re basically entering a period where reality itself is up for grabs unless we establish reliable verification methods. The problem isn’t just AI—it’s that trust in information is eroding, and bad actors are eager to exploit that.
What do you think—are we doomed, or do you see ways to fight back?
